Fall 2012 International Student Orientation Program

All new international students must attend a MANDATORY international student orientation. After admittance students receive an acceptance package, in addition to a series of e-mails from our office to inform them of orientation schedule and dates. Accepted students must arrive in Bowling Green within 2 weeks of first day of classes to attend all mandatory orientation events.

International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) provides this free orientation program for all incoming international students in F-1 or J-1 status at start of every fall and spring semester including freshman, graduate, transfer and exchange students. It is designed to help students learn about and understand important immigration regulations and procedures required of F-1 and J-1 students, confirms their arrival for required government reporting purposes and assists new students to adjust to WKU and U.S. Life. ISSS offers events and activities all week long!!

Topics include:
Checking in to the university system, international student responsibilities, student life, academic advising, course registration, obtaining a WKU student ID Card and being prepared to start classes. Plus opening a bank account, cell phones and other U.S. services.

For Fall 2012 semester, students MUST Check In on Tuesday, August 21st. New Student Orientation is on Wednesday, August 22nd. Thus, accepted students MUST arrive in Bowling Green BEFORE August 21, 2012 to attend all the mandatory orientation events.

Fall 2012 International Student Orientation Program

Date: August 21st 2012, Tuesday: Mandatory Check-In (Original Immigration Documents)

  • Passport
  • F-1 or J-1 Visa (stamped in your passport) - except Canadian citizens
  • I-94 Entry/Exit Card (small white card obtained upon arrival in U.S.) - stapled in passport 
  • I-20 (F-1 student) or DS-2019 (J-1 student) issued by WKU with U.S Port of Entry stamp
  • Official; Current Financial Statement(s) if required
  • Previously issued I-20(s) or DS-2019(s) from previous school, if transfering to WKU 
  • Any other official correspondence from USCIS, such as an I-797, if applicable

Time:  Between 9:00am to 3:00pm

Place: Grise Hall, room 135

Immigration document check-in is required for all new incoming international,U.S. transfer and exchange students and their dependents.

President of WKU, Dr. Gary A. Ransdell invites all new international students to join him at his home with his wife and ISSS Staff for a well deserved dinner.
