An Urban Folklore Class "Flamingos" the President's House
A tradition of Dr. Antonsen's Urban Folklore (FLK 71) class is to "flamingo" a property on or near Western's campus. In class, students learn about peaceful protest and celebratory traditions (such as TP-ing or displaying yellow ribbons). Late in the semester, the class discusses local issues and "targets" for a fun and friendly flamingo yard art "bombing" and then gathers in the wee hours of a morning to accomplish the task. These photos show the class flamingo-ing the home of WKU President Gary Ransdell. After he learned of the attention he received, he replied, "This is way cool!"
