Everyone calls her Becca, but she will also answer to Rebecca, Bec, Bex, You There, or Doc Wilson's daughter. She grew up in Russellville, KY, and was homeschooled from 3rd to 12th grade. She went to her father's alma mater, the University of South Carolina, where she became a fully indoctrinated Gamecocks fan, and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in English Literature. She is currently working full time for the Girl Scouts, where she enjoys doing programs with and for the girls in Warren, Barren, and Butler counties.
Becca likes to joke with people that she's on the "slow" track, because she's only taking classes part time, but her goal is to do full-time study in 2012-2013 on a thesis track. She's especially interested in folklore and education and her thesis will most likely focus on educational programs.
After she graduates, she'd like to take some time to concentrate more on educational projects to spread the love of folklore around to as many schoolchildren as possible, with the long-term goal of getting a PhD somewhere in the future so that she can teach at a graduate level.
After Becca's sister took their dog, Kody, with her to go to graduate school in Ohio, her roommate and she decided they didn't need to get another animal. That it is until she found a small grey kitten while doing a program at an elementary school, and took him home. His name is Spock, and he's quite entertaining.
She also has a "wonderful, amazing, spectacular" boyfriend named Clay who teaches Art at WKU and is the Master Distiller for Corsair Artisan Distillery in Bowling Green. If you want some really great gin, she can hook you up. :)
She is a black belt in Chinese Kung Fu, which she practices at East West Kung Fu Academy. She's also training for a half-marathon. Because of this, she has had to avoid reading novels during the semester, because otherwise her schoolwork doesn't get read.
What you do you do if you were given a million dollars? "I would travel to all the places I haven't seen yet: Greece, Russia, Portugal, Wales, more of Germany and France and Ireland, and as much of South America as I possibly could."
What did you want to be when you grew up? "When I was little, I wanted to be an astronaut or a ballerina. When I found out that astronauts had to do a lot of math, I gave up on that one, and when I found out that pointe shoes hurt like mad, I also gave up on that idea. After returning to the National Storytelling Festival at the age of 22, I decided I wanted to be a storyteller when I grew up."
