Research Opportunities

Western Kentucky University is located in an ideal region for field research. Bowling Green is a regional city of approximately 45,000 located between the metropolitan areas of Louisville, Kentucky, and Nashville, Tennessee. It has long been a center for the study of regional Kentucky folklife and offers access to a wide array of potential study areas. These areas range from agrarian culture to urban settings. They relate quite equally to both the fields of folklore and historic preservation.

The Western Kentucky University Folklife Archives--one of the foremost repositories in North America--boasts a significant collection of material on southern traditional life and culture. The Kentucky Museum and Kentucky Library also contain primary and rare artifacts for study. In addition, multimedia equipment is available for student use.
