An Taisce: The National Trust for Ireland, 2012
Rebekah hard at work at An Taisce
An Taisce, the National Trust for Ireland, was established in 1948 with the mission of protecting and conserving Ireland's heritage. As a non-governmental agency that relies heavily on the support if its members, An Taisce is highly involved in planning policy and legislation and the protection and sustainability of the natural and built environment.
As an intern at An Taisce, I was involved in all three areas. My work required that I review planning applications to assess compliance with Ireland's statutory framework for historic structures, analyze a conservation management plan for a mountain region in northern Ireland, plan events, update the website, and revise paper and digital records and documents.
The internship was a worthwhile and meaningful experience, and one in which I learned much about the practical application of preservation knowledge and skill.
