The facility houses ten research laboratories, the Biotechnology Center Core Facility, two teaching laboratories, and two support facilities.

The Biotechnology Center Core facility is equipped with many state-of-the-art research instruments that support research, instruction and student engagement. Students at Western have the opportunity for hands-on experience in performing DNA sequencing, fragment analysis, genotyping, dynamic quantification of gene expression, gene amplification, tissue culture, protein chemistry, and computational analysis of biological data.

Support facilities within CEBS allow work with radioactive isotopes, tissue cultures and whole organisms. Additionally, the Department of Biology houses the Electron Microscopy Facility which has a JEOL 5400LV scanning electron microscope and a JEOL 120CX scanning/transmission electron microscope, both with elemental analysis capabilities.

The Shared Core Facilities at the Biotechnology Center share a mission to support research by providing a range of services and training.
