Frequently Asked Questions

The Best Expectation Program (BEP) is an initiative designed to help you improve your academic performance and ultimately graduate from WKU. During the program, you’ll collaborate with team members to identify realistic academic goals, as well as address academic and non-academic concerns.
You’re required to participate if you have an academic standing of Academic Probation (AP) or Academic Committee Approval (AA). Academic Probation occurs when either your institution (WKU) or overall GPA is below 2.0. Academic Committee Approval indicates you were academically dismissed from WKU, but you’ve been approved for continued enrollment by the Academic Appeals Committee. Refer to the academic standing and grade information website for more information.
Yes! You’re required to participate if you have an academic standing of Academic Probation or Academic Committee Approval. Refer to the academic standing and grade information website for details. Regardless of academic standing, you may opt to participate in the program if you’re experiencing challenges in your courses. Contact bep@wku.edu to voluntarily participate in BEP.
The expectations for Bowling Green campus, regional campus, and online students are slightly different. Review the program requirements section on the homepage for additional information.
No! Participation in BEP is due to your academic standing, while SAP is part of your federal financial aid eligibility. These are two separate programs and processes. If you have any questions about SAP, please refer to the Satisfactory Academic Progress website. You may also contact Student Financial Assistance at 270-745-2755 or fa.help@wku.edu.
The Best Expectation program lasts one semester, during the fall or spring term. However, you’re required to participate until you achieve an academic standing of Good Standing, which means you may collaborate with team members for multiple semesters. The time commitment is no more than 55 minutes per week.
You can check your academic standing on your unofficial academic transcript. Refer to the step-by-step instructions on the ITS Knowledge Base for details. We'll also contact you through your TopperMail email account a few weeks prior to the start of the fall or spring term.
  1. Log into MyWKU using your NetID and password.
  2. Click on the Blackboard menu button. The WKU Blackboard website will typically open in a new page.
  3. Click on the Organizations menu button.
  4. Open the correct organization website.
You will have access to one of the following organization websites:
  • Best Expectation Program - Online Program
  • Best Expectation Program - Fall Semester
  • Best Expectation Program - Spring Semester
Once you confirm the changes appear on your unofficial academic transcript, please email bep@wku.edu to determine if you are still required to participate in the Best Expectation Program. Refer to the step-by-step instructions on the ITS Knowledge Base for details on how to access your unofficial academic transcript.
The Best Expectation Program provides support and accountability. You’ll collaborate with team members, create an academic success plan, develop crucial academic skills, and learn about a variety of campus resources. You'll also have the opportunity to identify useful success strategies with other students. In addition, if you receive below a 2.0 term GPA, you will be academically dismissed from WKU and unable to enroll in classes for one calendar year. If you decide to submit an academic appeal, the Academic Appeals Committee includes Best Expectation Program attendance when determining if your academic appeal is approved or denied for continued enrollment at WKU.
