Darlene Applegate
Anthropology Program
Associate Professor and Director of the Anthropology Program (B.A.,
Anthropology and Geology, Miami University; M.A., Ph.D., Anthropology,
The Ohio State University)
Dr. Applegate teaches courses in archaeology and biological
anthropology. Her interests include Eastern Woodlands archaeology, cave
and rockshelter archaeology, mortuary archaeology, lithic analysis,
bioarchaeology, and site formation processes. She advises the
Anthropology Club and oversees the WKU Anthropology Lab.

Kate Hudepohl
Anthropology Program
Assistant Professor (B.A., University of Virginia, Anthropology and Art
History; M.A., Ph.D., Tulane University, Anthropology)
Dr. Hudepohl is a cultural anthropologist specializing in the
Caribbean. She teaches courses in cultural anthropology and biological
anthropology. Her interests include gender, indigenous culture,
tourism, and medical anthropology. She advises the local chapter of the
national anthropological honorary society, Lambda Alpha.

Dr. Kristen Dowell
Anthropology Program
Assistant Professor of Anthropology (B.A. with honors,
Anthropology, University of Rochester; M.A., Ph.D.,
Anthropology, New York University; New York State Certificate in
Culture and Media, New York University)
Dr. Dowell teaches courses in cultural
anthropology, Native North American cultures, visual
anthropology and video production. Her research examines
indigenous identity, urban Indian cultural life, and the
politics of representation in indigenous media and activism in
Native North America. In addition to her academic research she
works as a film curator and has worked on several Native film
festivals in New York City, Washington D.C. and Vancouver, B.C.
She is also the director of Reel Steps: Irish Dance in America
(2002), a twenty-minute ethnographic video about Irish dancing
and cultural identity in New York. She oversees the video
production lab and visual resources in the Dept. of Folk Studies
and Anthropology.
