IV- Learning Outcomes and Assessment Measures
Graduates will be able to solve problems that involve analytical and numerical solutions.
Measure: The course in Statics or Architectural Structures will be used to assess
knowledge of analytical and numerical solutions once every year. At least 70% of our
students will demonstrate proficiency by getting a minimum grade C on the question(s)
in analytical and numerical solutions.
Graduates will demonstrate the ability to solve problems that address economics such
as evaluation of alternatives and life-cycle analysis.
Measure: The course in Construction Scheduling will be used to assess knowledge of
economics. At least 70% of our students will demonstrate proficiency by getting a
minimum grade C on the question(s) on economics.
Graduates will demonstrate the skills of construction management competencies including
estimating, planning, scheduling, project control, safety management, and construction
law.
Measure: Based on internship host survey, at least 70% of our students will get ratings
at or above very good in the "Technical Competence" survey question.
Measure: Based on a conducted employer survey (supervisor survey), at least 70% of
our students will get ratings at or above very good in the "Technical Competence"
survey question.
Measure: Based on a peer review of all final Senior Research projects, a committee
of practicing professionals from the construction industry and faculty in related
disciplines will find that at least 70% of our students meeting project deliverables
with ratings at or above "4" on a 5-point scale.
Graduates will demonstrate the ability to conduct research and experiments, incorporating
the collection, analysis and interpretation of data.
Measure: Based on a peer review of all final Senior Research projects, by a committee
of practicing professionals from the construction industry and faculty in related
disciplines, at least 70% of our students will get ratings at or above "3" on a 5-point
scale in the survey question on utilizing fundamental research skills and quantitative
and qualitative analysis.
Graduates will have managerial and leadership experience through working in teams
to solve problems, and participation in required internships.
Measure: Based on a peer review of all final Senior Research projects, by a committee
of practicing professionals from the construction industry and faculty in related
disciplines, at least 70% of our students will get ratings at or above "3" on a 5-point
scale in the survey question on exhibiting fundamental managerial skills.
Graduates will demonstrate their ability to prepare a real-world comprehensive construction
management plan that integrates the use of standards and realistic contemporary constraints
that may include control of health and safety issues, economics, and societal and
global impacts.
Measure: Based on a peer review of all final Senior Research projects, a committee
of practicing professionals from the construction industry and faculty in related
disciplines will find that at least 70% of our students meeting the goals of the project
with ratings at or above "4" on a 5-point scale.
Graduates will demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively using oral, written,
graphic and visual applications.
Measure Based on internship host survey, at least 70% of our students will get ratings
at or above very good in "verbal" and "written" communication skills.
Measure: Based on a conducted employer survey (supervisor survey), at least 70% of
our students will get ratings at or above very good in the "verbal" and "graphics"
communication skills.
Graduates will be exposed to the role and responsibilities of the construction management
profession involving safety, green practices, ethics and professionalism.
Measure: Based on a peer review of all final Senior Research projects, a committee
of practicing professionals from the construction industry and faculty in related
disciplines will find that at least 70% of our students demonstrating understanding
of safe, green and ethical practices with ratings at or above "4" on a 5-point scale.
Measure: Based on a conducted employer survey (supervisor survey), at least 70% of
our students will get ratings at or above very good in the survey question on their
relationships with co-workers.
Graduates will demonstrate respect for diversity of peoples, ideas and cultures; and
awareness of their opportunities as responsible citizens living in a global society.
Measure: The course in Senior Research will be used to assess respect for diversity.
Based on a student appraisal survey (AMS Student Appraisal), at least 70% of our students
will rate the development of their ability to demonstrate sensitivity for cultural
diversity in a global society at or above "4" on a 5-point scale.
