WKU Police Access Control
During the past year, the Police Department and the Department of Facilities Management have been in the process of moving the Lock Shop operation to the WKU Police Department. Starting July 1, 2011 the WKU Police Department will be responsible for the Lock Shop which will report directly to the Chief of Police. As a result of this acquisition the Lock Shop will be now known as WKU Access Control.
A cooperative effort has been made by the Department of Facilities Management and the WKU Police to maintain a high level of safety and security during this transition. WKU Access Control will continue to create and maintain keying systems which will ensure physical security to persons authorized to possess keys to WKU facilities.
The effective control and security of university buildings are necessary requirements for the safety and protection of university personnel and equipment. Therefore, a policy has been established for the issuance and security of university keys, which are the heart of an effective building security system.
Please be patient as some of the challenges are worked out during this time of transition. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns you can direct them to the following email: accesscontrol@wku.edu. WKU Access Control would like to thank you in advance for your patience.
Access Control Tips:
- Keys are non-transferable. When separating from WKU, keys must be returned to Access Control.
- Keys are not to be left in the lock cylinder. Always secure your keys and doors.
- Keys are not to be borrowed or loaned, except for "checkout" keys.
- Keys shall not be duplicated.
- Keys shall not be hidden outside the area accessed by the key.
- Keys shall remain in key holder's possession at all times while on duty.
- Keys shall be used for official duties only.
- Keys shall not be used to provide access to others unless authorized.
