The Lincoln Tour

Following Lincoln from Hodgenville, KY to Springfield, IL

The Lincoln Tour will combine lectures and group discussions of Abraham Lincoln’s life and accomplishments with visits to historic sites associated with his life from his birth in 1809 to his election as President in 1860. The tour will give participants an opportunity to visit the major Lincoln sites in Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois and explore significant episodes in the life of our sixteenth President.

If you are interested in Lincoln and the pre-Civil War era, this trip is for you.

  • This is a topics course, no pre-requisites required
• When:       May 14 - 22, 2007 (May 14-17 in the classroom at Western; May 18-22 traveling)
• Cost:         $1500/person
  • This cost covers the tuition for 3 credit hours, lodging, travel, and admission to all tours during the trip.

    • Knob Creek – Childhood Home
    • Louisville – Farmington, Family estate of Lincoln’s close friend Joshua Speed
  • Indiana –
    • Gentryville & Lincoln City – Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial, Nancy Hanks’ grave site, Lincoln State Park
  • Illinois –
    • Springfield – Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum, the old State House, the Lincoln Herndon Law Office, the Lincoln Depot, the Lincoln Home, historic Oakridge Cemetery and the Lincoln Tomb
    • New Salem – New Salem State Historic Site
    • Petersburg – a small community containing the grave site of Anne Rutledge who was purportedly Lincoln’s first love
