Work Life After SRSC
Kelly Harer, SRSC 2015
Lecturer, Coastal Carolina University
The MA in SRSC has helped me obtain my dream job of teaching sustainability at a university level. Even greater, I’ve formed empowering relationships with incredible people who share my passion for creating a better future. The SRSC program has transformed my life in the best way possible—from my improved critical thinking skills to my everyday interactions with people, I am constantly using information I learned throughout my two years at WKU. I entered this program with a passion for sustainability and graduated with a broader sense of economic, social, and environmental justice. The SRSC program not only opened my eyes to a wide range of social issues, but has taught me how to effectively improve my local and global communities with regards to these issues. Joining the SRSC program is the best decision I have made both personally and professionally.

Alejandro Hernandez, SRSC 2015
Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Des Moines, IA
What I learned in the Social Responsibility and Sustainable Communities master's program at Western Kentucky University has proven invaluable in my professional and academic life. I recently put the knowledge I gained about business and human rights during my studies to work tackling a complex human rights risk management initiative at my company. Next year I plan to share my experiences with others by teaching an introduction to corporate social responsibility course at our local university. The ability of this program to place people's passion for social justice within frameworks that take into account various disciplines and perspectives is a powerful way to create viable approaches to address pressing issues facing our communities.
