WKU Sisterhood Spotlight: Bev Pitts ('79)

Bev Pitts ('79)

Hometown and Current City: Bowling Green is my hometown, and I have always lived here.

When did you attend WKU? I attended WKU Fall 1975 - Fall 1979.

What activities were you involved in as a student? As a student, I worked in the Physics & Astronomy Department Head office, and my immediate supervisor was Peggy Thompson, mother of Betty Thompson McGuire. I worked for Peggy all four years.

During this same time, my family began attending First Baptist Church, and I got involved with the college ministry, the church college choir, mission trips, and Friday nights spent at Emmanuel Mission Church with the children where we provided meals and games.

Do you have a favorite memory from the Hill? One of my favorite memories of being on the Hill was getting to move to the dorm during my sophomore year. We had a large snowfall that year, and my dad was driving me to school each day for a week. At the end of the week, he said “you can move to the dorm!”  Woohoo! I moved into McLean Hall the next week.

If you work, tell us what you do. I worked various office jobs after graduating from WKU, and retired on Jan. 1, 2019, from Kentucky Education Association after working for over 30 years. I love being retired!

Tell us about your family: I have been married to John Pitts for 42 1/2 years. We have two children: Sara and Adam. Adam is married to Bailey Cooley and they have one daughter, Harper, age 2. Harper is going to be a big sister this spring to Baby Lucy!

Do you have any passion projects other than the WKU Sisterhood? One of my passions is needlepoint. I love to stitch! I have made friends around the world while stitching in classes held on Zoom. Some of us get together periodically to stitch and visit.

Fun fact about yourself: Everyone in the family is a Hilltopper grad!
