Lisa Stewart, MSN, RN

Lisa Stewart MSN, RN, graduated from Western Kentucky University with ASN (2007), BSN (2008-cum laude), and MSN (2011) degrees. She entered the healthcare provider field in 1983 as an EMT/Paramedic. She is currently contemplating pursuing her DNP at WKU.
Prior to and in conjunction with teaching, Mrs. Stewart has and continues to actively participate in direct patient care as a RN in Emergency Nursing at a Level I Trauma Center. She also has experience in psychiatric nursing. She began teaching with WKU as a clinical instructor with the BSN program in Fall, 2008, and began teaching full-time with the ASN program in Spring, 2011. She currently teaches in the third semester of the ASN program in Medical-Surgical Nursing II, lecturing on Shock, Hypertension, Metabolic/Endocrine, Cancer, and Anemias, lecturing on Emergency Nursing for Medical-Surgical Nursing III, and coordinates and teaches the associated Medical-Surgical Nursing II clinical. She also coordinates clinical education for the ASN Program. She has a passion for teaching future nurses and is a staunch patient advocate.
Her research interests include clinical concept mapping, critical thinking promotion, incorporating web-accessible audiovisual tools into nursing education, law enforcement safety, rural health, patient advocacy, and nursing student engagement.
Mrs. Stewart is an active member/volunteer of the American Nurses Association (ANA), Kentucky Nurses Association (KNA), National League for Nursing (NLN), Sigma Theta Tau (SFT) International Honor Society of Nursing—Kappa Theta Chapter, Emergency Nurses Association (ENA), Kentucky Health Emergency Listing of Professionals for Surge (KHELPS), Barren River Area Development District Medical Reserves Corps (BRADD MRC), and is a member/volunteer of other local and regional professional organizations.
Her current provider certifications include American Heart Association’s Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Emergency Nurses Association’s Trauma Nurses Core Curriculum (TNCC). She is also a certified AHA BLS instructor.
Mrs. Stewart is a Bowling Green native and has been a lifelong Hilltopper fan! She and her husband, a retired peace officer, are the proud parents of a WKU BSN graduate and two current WKU students. In addition to WKU and Nursing, she enjoys photography, Kentucky history, and spending time with family and friends.
