WKU to observe Sexual Assault Prevention Month

April is Sexual Assault Prevention Month, and the WKU campus community will kick off activities on Monday, April 1.
The Sexual Assault Prevention Month Kick-Off will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Downing Student Union Courtyard (rain location: DSU first floor). The event will provide information on resources for prevention and support that are available on campus and in the community.
As part of the kick-off event, campus departments, student organizations, and local nonprofits will be available to share resources and raise awareness. There will also be activities and giveaways.
Other Sexual Assault Prevention Month activities include the following:
- April 3: What Were You Wearing Exhibit Opening, 1 p.m.-3 p.m., at the ISEC Gallery in DSU. Remarks from Dr. Martha Sales, Dean of Students, will begin at 1:30 p.m. What Were You Wearing is an art exhibit with the intention to spread awareness and prevention of sexual assault and victim blaming. There will be an opportunity to speak with representatives from Hope Harbor and the WKU Counseling Center. Light refreshments will be served.
- April 8: Part of the Solution, an interactive discussion on topics specific to college men, but open to all students, 5 p.m. at Downing Student Union, room 2081.
- April 10: Grocery Bingo, April’s program focuses on sexual assault education, advocacy, and prevention, 5 p.m. at Preston Center Multipurpose Room.
- April 15: First Things First: Your Story, Your Words at 4:30 p.m. at Gordon Wilson Hall Lab Theatre.
- April 17: Faculty and Staff Title IX Disclosure Training--Lunch and Learn, 11:30 a.m. in DSU 2081.
- April 17: Find Your Inner Strength: Self-Defense and De-escalation class, 6 p.m. at DSU Nite Class.
- April 28: Take Back the Night, an annual event presented by Hope Harbor, 5:15 p.m. at First Christian Church.
- Other monthlong activities include a Support a Survivor Supply Drive to collect non-spiral journals, hygiene products, and toys with drop-off locations at Hope Harbor, WKU Counseling Center, WKU Student Activities, and WKU Housing and Residence Life; and What Were You Wearing Exhibit at the Intercultural Student Engagement Center Gallery in Downing Student Union.

Sexual Assault Prevention Month is coordinated by WKU Counseling Center, Hope Harbor, Inc. Barren River Area Safe Space, WKU Student Conduct, WKU Health Education and Promotion, WKU Student Activities, WKU Social Work, WKU Department of English, WKU Student Government Association, and WKU Communications & Marketing. Events presented with support from the WKU College of Health and Human Services, WKU Gender and Women’s Studies, WKU Restaurant Group, and WKU Intercultural Student Engagement Center.
