Matt Hunt, M.A.
Matt joined the Institute for Rural Health (IRH) in the fall of 2012. As the Director, Matt is responsible for the executive oversight and operational management of the IRH. He is involved with building relationships in the community, providing strategic direction, providing fiscal management and accountability, providing personnel management for professional staff, directing risk management programs, and serving on internal and external committees. Prior to returning to his alma mater as an employee, Matt served in a senior level public health management position as the Human Resources Director of the Barren River District Health Department (BRDHD). The BRDHD spanned eight counties and served numerous rural populations. Matt has a strong desire to serve the community.
Matt attended Western Kentucky University as an undergraduate and graduate student. His education includes a Master of Arts in Administrative Dynamics, Graduate Certificate in Leadership Studies, Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies in Business, and an Associate of Arts in Business Management. Additionally, Matt completed the Management Development Program at Harvard University Graduate School of Education. He has been the lead author for peer-reviewed articles focusing on leadership topics in business, industry, and academia.
He grew up in rural South Central Kentucky. Matt and his wife are the proud parents of a two year-old son. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, camping, and hunting in the great outdoors.
