Grade Notations


Introductory Information:


Audit

Analysis of a student’s coursework, GPA, and hours toward a specified degree, major, minor, and concentration. Shows requirements and sub-requirements that have been completed or need to be completed.

Exception

A method for handling variations to any section of the audit for a student. Exceptions are most commonly used for course substitutions. All exceptions must be approved by the student’s department head.

Program Code

Major code used in Banner. Contains the college, degree, and concentration code and the reference number for the major.

Catalog Term

Typically the term a student was admitted to WKU; Used to determine degree requirements; For additional information, click here.

Requirement

Component of the audit which usually requires a minimum GPA and sub-requirements to complete.

Sub-Requirement

An individual piece of the requirement. Before a requirement can be complete, sub-requirements must be complete.

Any 100, 200, 300, or 400 level course; usually preceded by a department. (Ex. Eng 1**=Any 100 level English Course)

IP

In-Progress courses are being used in a requirement. The requirement is not complete until IP courses have earned appropriate grades and hours.

Matched As:

How or why a course meets a sub-requirement; usually cross-listed courses or course number changes

Needs:

What is left to be completed before the requirement/sub-requirement show as completed.

Not From:

Courses that are unacceptable to fulfill a sub-requirement

Processed As:

Reflects a change in department or course number.

Select From:

Courses that are acceptable to fulfill a sub-requirement

Course Notations:


“C”

A “C” following a course number denotes a course taken at the Community College.

TRAN EL-L

Transfer course that does not have an equivalency; usually found in the Excess Course section of audit

**** A2-L, ****B1-U, etc.

Represents transfer courses applying to General Education Requirements even though the course does not have an equivalency. “L” means a lower level transfer course applied; “U” means an upper level transfer course applied.

KGET

Represents credit earned through the Kentucky Transfer Agreement
