Biography

Hi! My name is Gabe Heckerman, and I am so excited to be serving as a Peer Mentor for the Mahurin Honors College! I am a sophomore from Mount Juliet, TN, and I am currently a pre-med student, double majoring in Biology and Spanish. I am a member of Alpha Epsilon Delta: health pre-professional honor society and a founding member of the American Medical Student Association on campus. I very much enjoy research and I am currently working on two research projects. On campus, I work in Dr. Michael Smith’s lab, studying the protective role of melanin in the Teleost inner ear. I am also working remotely, under Dr. Adrienne Mueller at Stanford Cardiovascular Institute, assessing the “Accessibility and Reproducible Research Practices in Cardiovascular Literature.” In the future, I hope to establish a practice as a physician in Bowling Green, with a focus on providing better care for underrepresented and underserved populations. In my free time, I enjoy listening to 80’s alternative music, chilling with my Goldendoodle, Bailey, and watching football.
