February 8, 2019 Legislative Update
- Friday, February 8th, 2019
Part II of the 2019 session of the Kentucky General Assembly began last Tuesday, February 5th. On Thursday, February 7th, President Caboni and Jennifer Smith (Special Assistant to the President and Director, Government and Community Relations) attended Governor Bevin’s State of the Commonwealth Address. The governor shared an update on the most recent accomplishments of his administration and of the General Assembly but did not outline specific issues he would like addressed during the short legislative session.
Pension reform continues to be the top legislative priority for WKU. Pension cost is the primary driving factor in our budget, and it is important that we continue to advocate for relief for the universities. WKU is working in cooperation with the other affected public universities (EKU, KSU, MoSU, MuSU and NKU) to educate legislators on the impact of these costs on our respective universities. Mrs. Smith will continue to keep the campus community informed on any developments regarding pension reform as the session unfolds.
