Florida State Folklorist
Florida Folklife Program
Where do you currently work?
I am the Florida State Folklorist with the Florida Folklife Program (FFP). FFP is one of the oldest state run programs in the nation, having been established in the late 1970's. Currently, the program is located in the Division of Historical Resources within the Department of State. FFP is dedicated to documenting and presenting Florida's rich cultural heritage by conducting fieldwork and coordinating activities and projects that highlight the traditional knowledge and cultural identity of the state. As State Folklorist, my primary objectives are to conduct fieldwork for the annual cultural survey, build programming for the annual Florida Folklife Festival and present tradition bearers, coordinate the Florida Folklife Apprenticeship Program and the Florida Folk Heritage Awards, and facilitate artist in residency partnerships between folk artists and Universities.
