Purpose:
Under the WKU "Moving to a New Level" plan instituted by the Board of Regents, each student in a major is required to complete the senior assessment process during their senior year. This course is required of all accounting majors. The course is a venue in which the assessment examination will be given (with consequences for the student dependent upon performance) and in which any required remediation may take place for those who do not achieve an acceptable score on the examination on their first attempt.Additionally, a sample of the students' writing and presentation skills will be assessed. |
Course Objectives: The objective of the course is to provide an assessment of the preparation of senior Accounting majors consistent with the "New Level" directives. The senior assessment examination will be administered in this course. Remedial work will be made available for students who demonstrate deficiencies. Career opportunities will be explored. Students will also be introduced to the professional certification programs (e.g., Certified Public Accountant's examination, Certified Management Accountant's examination, Certified Internal Auditor's examination, and others.) Assessment of student writing and presentation skills will also be a component of the grade. |

Eligibility: Students must be in their final semester of course work to enroll in senior assessment. The only exception is students completing their program in the summer are to take senior assessment in the preceding spring semester. Students should have completed all other accounting courses or currently be enrolled in their last courses. |

Student
expectations and outcomes:
Students will be expected to prepare themselves for the senior assessment examination and achieve an acceptable score. Remedial activities will be provided for students who do not initially demonstrate an acceptable understanding of the concepts. Students will complete
writing assignments reporting on professional meetings. Students will also be required to successfully complete a presentation assignment. For
accreditation and continuous improvement purposes, the accounting
program collects data that will assist in the collection, analysis and
reporting (in the aggregate) information about our graduates. To that
end, you will be asked to complete a short personal data sheet at the
end of the semester. This will be done by contacting the
Accounting
Office Associates office (501 Grise Hall) during the last week of the
semester. |
