Message from EVP Howarth on Additional Information for Campus
- Susan Howarth
- Monday, March 16th, 2020
Please see the details below intended to keep our campus community up-to-date around the COVID-19 Pandemic:
Because campus operations continue to change as additional information comes to us, we ask that you continually check respective websites on opening and closing times for various offices and labs.
ITS/TopperTech Laptop Loan Program
Students, Faculty, and Staff - do you need to borrow a laptop at no cost to allow you to work or do classwork from where you live? If so, please let TopperTech know via this request so that we can provide you with information regarding our laptop loan/checkout program. We are expanding this service, available through TopperTech (located in the JRH computer lab), by adding additional laptops to meet the needs of all members of the WKU community during this unique time. Please contact us as soon as possible, so that we can increase our supply to meet the demand before next week.
If you have traveled within or outside the US, we ask that you complete a voluntary Travel Disclosure Form https://www.wku.edu/covid19/travel/disclosure-form/ to help us monitor our campus setting for any subsequent policy decisions. In addition, if you are returning from a country with widespread, ongoing transmission - designated as a Level 3 Travel Health Notice Country - per CDC guidelines, you must stay home for 14 days from the time you left the area and practice social distancing. The list of these countries can be found here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/after-travel-precautions.html.
Reporting Potential Exposure: Self-Isolation
If you have come in contact with or otherwise believe that you may have been exposed to COVID-19, we are requesting that you self-report this information so that we are able to actively monitor our campus setting for any subsequent policy decisions. Please report this to your supervisor and in an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. This is also important for WKU’s coordination with applicable health officials and any required reporting. DO NOT COME to WORK. You may also seek medical advice and direction from your health care provider and follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Directives for Self-Quarantine, and other protective actions.
Please see FAQs at www.wku.edu/covid19 for more detailed information.
Supply chain Management Issues
The COVID-19 pandemic may have us rushing to the store to stock up on hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, toilet paper and other supplies. But before you clean out the aisles at the local store, stop and think about the community. Help do your part by only buying what you need, and leave some for your neighbors.
Currently, WKU is well stocked with cleaning supplies and disinfectant. We are working with our vendors to maintain those supplies. Help us make sure we have enough on hand for our campus by only using what you need while at work.
Children and the Workplace
While WKU has fully embraced the expectation of social distancing and working from home, the temporary closure of childcare centers and elementary and secondary schools present additional challenges for employees and employers to navigate. We recognize that for working parents---whether continuing to work on campus or working from home—this new dynamic inserts added difficulty in balancing personal and professional responsibilities.
In order to maintain a campus environment that is safe and as healthy as possible for all, bringing children into the workplace is strongly discouraged. Employees should work with their supervisor to make appropriate accommodations in support of childcare and family needs. Human Resources is available for consultation.
While we remain open for business, we know this is not business as ususal. Thank you for doing your part. If you have further questions, please check out our FAQs, https://www.wku.edu/covid19/faqs/, and consult with your supervisor.
