Circulating Ebooks
I purchased a simple plastic storage case with a handle for each of our Kindles and placed the Kindle, the charger, and a copy of the instructions within the case. I also purchased a Kindle cover.. The Kindle is stored within the cover and placed in the box.

We cataloged each Kindle as equipment (realia) and placed a barcode on the outside of the plastic case and on the back of the Kindle itself. Students can not check out the Kindle without having a parent sign a consent form. The form details the cost of the Kindle and the user's responsibility. Students and staff can borrow the Kindle for 2 weeks. Students are fined $1.00 per day for each day it is returned late.

Every book purchased for the Kindle is listed in the 740 (Added Title) and a 505 (Contents) fields in the marc record for the Kindle. Students who search for a title in our catalog can see if we own it for a Kindle. We have Destiny; if I search for the Hunger Games, it will bring up all the separate formats we own. The word Kindle appears after all the formats. If you click on the word Kindle, all the titles on the Kindle will be listed in the order in which they were entered. One could also search the catalog for the word Kindle and click on the record and see the contents.

Kindles available for checkout according to genre. The
Sci-Fi Kindle would have 10 popular sci-fi books loaded on it; the
Historical Fiction Kindle would have 10 historical fiction books on it,
etc.

Sony E Reader. It downloads via USB,
so you don't have to link your credit card to it. You set your account up
on-line on your PC and then download to the device.

1) On your computer, right click on the tracks of your audiobooks (you can
select multiple tracks and still right click) (mac users-control key and
select the tracks)
2) Go to "Get Info"
3) Go to the tab "Options"
4) Under this tab, there should be a checkbox that says "Remember position"
or "Remember playback position." Make sure that the box is checked.

Hope this helps!

I think you can also select the tracks when they are on the ipod and follow
the same procedure.

Food for thought

Do schools need to maintain traditional libraries? What are the educational consequences of having students read less on the printed page and more on the Web?
