Physical Therapy School General Facts and Figures


For fall 2015 there will be 231 physical therapy schools in the United States, District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.  There are currently 167 physical therapy schools that utilize PTCAS. For the fall 2014, there were 16,828 applicants that completed 96,338 applications.  This equated to an average of 5.7 applications per applicant.  The number of mailed PTCAS applicants increased 8% and the number of applications increased 10% as compared to the 2012-13 admissions cycle

If you are a Kentucky resident, you should consider yourself fortunate.  In the Commonwealth, there are three physical therapy schools, Western Kentucky University, University of Kentucky, and Bellarmine University (private).  Combined, the three colleges have approximately 158 students in their first year classes.

If you are a resident of Tennessee, you are also blessed with four publicly financed physical therapy schools, Tennessee State University, University of Tennessee (Chattanooga), University of Tennessee (Health Science Center), and East Tennessee State University.  In addition, there are also two private physical therapy school in Tennessee, Belmont University and South College.
