There are presently 21 Schools and Colleges of Optometry in the United States and Puerto Rico. For the 2014 entering class, there were 2,604 applicants (13,164 applications) for an average of 5.06 applications per applicant. Compared to 2013, the number of applications was down 1.003%. The GPA for accepted applicants ranged from 3.02 to 3.65. The most selected major on the OptomCAS application was Biology. 70% o accepted applicants were female and 30% were male.
If you are a Kentucky resident, you should consider yourself fortunate. In the Commonwealth, there is one college of optometry, University of Pikeville (private). The University of Pikeville - Kentucky College of Optometry, admits approximately 60 students in their first year class.
