Parent TOP Checklist



Before TOP, Encourage Your Student to:


Visit Campus (& Bowling Green)

If you haven't already, schedule a campus tour. Click here or call 270-745-2551 to set one up! Also, plan to visit the area before you begin your first semester to get to know Bowling Green.

Apply for Financial Aid

Be sure to take care of financial aid early and ask for help if needed!

Apply for Housing

First and second year students are required to live on campus unless planning to commute from their permanent residence if less than 50 miles away. Fill out a housing application as early as possible by clicking here. If you have questions, email hrl@wku.edu or call 270-745-4359.



During TOP, Encourage Your Student to:


Be Independent

You and your student will participate in separate events at TOP. Encourage them to ask questions and meet new people.

Have their WKU ID Card Made

Remind your student to bring an official ID (state or school issued) to verify their identity when picking up their WKU ID Card.

Visit the Summit

Your student is required to visit the Summit at the end of TOP to turn in paperwork to the TOP staff. Staff will review the student schedule, make suggestions and point out where classes are located, and answer any remaining questions.

Purchase a Meal Plan

All first year students are required to buy a meal plan. WKU Restaurant Group has an assortment of plans available which can be purchased at TOP. Plans may also be purchased at a later date.

Sign up for M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan

M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan is designed for new WKU students to prepare them to meet the challenges of campus life and the college classroom. To sign up, call 270-745-2037, visit here, or email master.plan@wku.edu.

Buy a Parking Permit

Remind your student to bring an official ID (state or school issued) to verify their identity when picking up their WKU ID Card.

Buy a Parking Permit

If your student plans to bring a car to campus, a parking pass is required. Visit Parking and Transportation online to purchase a permit.

Check Official WKU Emails

About 48 hours after attending TOP, your Hilltopper receives a WKU email account. Encourage them to check it regularly for campus updates and communications.
