Theatre & Dance Scholarship Opportunities
The Potter College Creative Arts Scholarship
The Potter College Creative Arts Scholarship is a competitive award for incoming freshmen, based on the requirements of the department in which you apply. Award amounts are between $1,000 and $9,000 per year, renewable for four years (8 semesters total). High school seniors are invited to apply if they are planning to major in one of these degrees: Dance, Theatre, Performing Arts (Acting, Musical Theatre, Theatre Design and Technology), Art, Music, Creative Writing, and Film. Begin that process by going to the Potter College Creative Arts Scholarship website.
Dancers please note: Those auditioning for placement into the B. A. in Dance program may request that the program audition also serve as their Potter College Creative Arts Scholarship audition. Keep in mind that extra steps are required in order to apply for the scholarship, and stringent deadlines for scholarship application materials are enforced. Placement into the Dance Program and awarding of scholarships are two separate decisions and not contingent upon one another.
Incoming Freshman Scholarships
Besides the Potter College Creative Arts Scholarship, there are several other possible awards for incoming freshmen, including:
- Academic Merit Awards
- Cherry Presidential Scholarship
- Targeted Kentucky Governor’s Scholars
- Targeted Cornelius A. Martin Scholarship
- Targeted Non-Resident/International Student Scholarship.
Additional information and instructions on how to apply for the above scholarships can be found here.
Scholarships for Transfer Students
Transfer students should apply for a Transfer Base and/or Transfer Targeted Awards. These can be stacked on top of the GSA Target Award and Potter College Creative Arts Scholarship mentioned above, up to the cost of attendance. Check out the WKU Scholarships page for a comprehensive list of scholarships and policies.
Theatre & Dance Department Scholarships
At the departmental level, we administer 13 merit-based scholarships funds. Typically, we award about 20 to 25 individual scholarships a year, ranging in size from $150 to $1,000. These awards are given to sophomores, juniors and seniors majors in the Department of Theatre & Dance. Applicants must have a current TopDollar application on file, and must also complete the department application (pdf or docx). The department application is due in February and the department faculty select the recipients in March. Rather than applying for any specific scholarships listed below, this is a general application for support. The department faculty then choose the appropriate fund for each student selected. See the application for further details.
