Professor Stroot holds a BES in Theatre, Music and Pre-Nursing from St. Cloud State University and an MFA in Stage Directing from the University of Minnesota. Prior to his appointment as Department Head of Theatre and Dance at Western in 2001, Scott had served as Artistic Director of the Minnesota Shakespeare Company in Minneapolis, as a founding member of the Massachusetts based performance art collaborative In Collusion, performance columnist for the arts journals ArtNEW England and P-form, and Chair of the Creative Arts Division at the late, great Bradford College in Massachusetts. Since moving to Bowling Green, Scott has collaborated on creative projects as actor and director with the Public Theatre of Kentucky, The Kentucky Repertory Theatre in Horse Cave, and the Bowling Green Symphony Orchestra. In 2010, after serving two terms as Department Head, Scott amicably and voluntarily handed off departmental administration to current department head, Dr. David Young, and resumed full time teaching in the department, where he leads courses in Acting, Directing and Taijiquan.
