Consequences for not following the policy

Each situation is different and unique.  Outcomes will depend upon various considerations such as impact of the behavior, prior conduct history, and willingness to make the necessary changes to modify behavior. Outcomes are educational in nature and intended to provide the student with an understanding to increase their knowledge and perspective related to the policy.

Generally, outcomes of reported non-compliance could include:

  1. A written warning.
The notice could include a reminder about the Big Red Restart Plan and a Behavior Agreement of the expectations to comply with the Health Hilltopper Pledge. Additional information may include where to obtain personal protective equipment and resources related to COVID-19 health and safety information.
  2. An informal meeting.
A meeting with the student may be requested to discuss the 2nd report. A 2nd record of the non-compliance will be made and additional actions (probation, residence hall relocation, removal from class section and deferred suspension) will be considered for the non-compliance.
  3. Immediate adminsitrative action.
Disciplinary actions for students may include removal from course without possiblity to drop, restricted access and/or loss of all university privileges, loss of on campus housing privileges or separation from the university.

1st reports of egregious, significantly threatening, and/or multiple violations in combination of the policies may be addressed with the student being issued a notice of Separation from the University by action of the Director of Student Conduct.
