Awards and Scholarships

 Gloria Young Hovious Memorial Scholarship

The School of Professional Studies will present a $750.00 award for the Gloria Young Hovious Memorial Scholarship in the spring of each academic year to a student taking courses in the Business and/or Paralegal Studies Units of the School of Professional Studies. This scholarship was established by family, colleagues, and friends to honor the memory of Ms. Hovious who served as a prominent faculty member in the WKU's Business Education Department at Western Kentucky University.

To be eligible for this scholarship, students must maintain full-time enrollment (12 hours or more per semester) in the Business and/or Paralegal Studies Units of the School of Professional studies during the academic year in which the scholarship is awarded.

Recipients will be selected by a faculty committee from the School of Professional Studies and will be recognized. The $750.00 scholarship will be paid in increments per semester for the academic year.

Clyde B. Cates Scholarships

The School of Professional Studies will award two (2) $500.00 scholarships for the Clyde B. Cates Scholarship in the spring of each academic year to a student taking courses in the Business and/or Paralegal Studies Units of the School of Professional Studies. The Clyde B. Cates Scholarships were established through the College Heights Foundation of WKU at the testamentary bequest of Mrs. Clyde B. Cates, a retired professor (1965) of business administration and economics at WKU, to honor her father J.E. Boulton. Mr. Boulton was a graduate of Southern Normal School, the forerunner of Western Kentucky University.

To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must maintain full time enrollment (12 hours or more per semester) in the Business and/or Paralegal Studies Units of the School of Professional studies during the academic year in which the scholarship is awarded.

Recipients will be selected by a faculty committee from the School of Professional Studies and will be recognized. The $500.00 scholarship will be paid in increments of $250.00 per semester for the academic year.

 School of Professional Studies Student Travel Award

The SPS offers $250 scholarships to help students fund Study Abroad or Study Away experiences which include credit-bearing coursework. Awards are limited to students in majors or programs housed in the SPS, but the funds can be used toward any credit-bearing Study Abroad or Study Away experience offered at WKU. The deadline to apply for funds toward Summer and/or Fall 2015 travel is April 1, 2015. Please complete the SPS travel application form and submit it to Cortney.Basham, (Tate Page Hall 262). Decisions regarding these awards will be made prior to the end of the Spring 2015 semester by the SPS Student Travel Approval Committee

 Submission must be emailed to Cort Basham,  NO LATER THAN APRIL 15.

 


 Bowling Green Chapter of International Association of Administrative Professionals Scholarship

 The Bowling Green Chapter of International Association of Administrative Professionals will award two $750.00 scholarships each academic year. These scholarships were established through the College Heights Foundation of WKU in 1987. These scholarships are awarded through interest earnings to deserving student leaders who possess the qualities of character, integrity, dependability, industriousness and human compassion meriting recognition.

Recipients will be selected by a committee of School of Professional Studies faculty and the scholarship will be presented in April of each academic year to be paid in increments over two semesters.

To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must:

  • Maintain full time enrollment at WKU (12 hours or more per semester) during the academic year in which the scholarships are awarded;
  • Pursue a course of study leading to an Associate Degree in Business with a Concentration in Office Management and Supervision, Management Information Systems, Business Management or Business Management Preparation.
  • Obtain a grade point average of 2.5 or above in the first semester after the scholarship is awarded (to receive the second increment of the scholarship).
