Yuritzi Lopez, Student Ambassador

Yuritzi Lopez

My involvement in the Sociology & Criminology Department has been an extraordinary experience. My professors have made it an incredible experience by teaching in a way that is effective and memorable. Prior to attending WKU, I interned at the Juvenile Justice Center in Nashville, Tennessee which opened my interest in the criminal justice field. Having worked hands on in this field has made me realize that this is where my passion is at, and where I will be succeeding in the future.  I am currently involved with the Intercultural Student Engagement Center (ISEC) where I serve as a second-year navigator with the program. I am also involved with the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) and the Hilltopper Organization of Latin American Students (HOLAS). Being a first-generation college student has held a lot of pressure on my shoulders, but it has made me a stronger person as well as a stronger leader. It has also made me very passionate about helping others and helping them achieve their goals and aspirations. After graduation, I plan on going to law school and pursuing a career in the criminal justice system.

I look forward to my role as a peer mentor because helping others is what I love doing most. When others are stuck, I like to help them find a way to a solution. Together with the help of the student ambassadors we can successfully strengthen the Department of Sociology and Criminology with new ideas and memorable and impactful events.
