Kelley Holland, Outstanding Diversity & Community Studies Major

Holland

After graduating high school and moving to Kentucky, Kelley graduated SKYCTC but was unsure of what she wanted to major in. When she found the Diversity and Community Studies major at WKU, she knew it was for her. She has always had a passion for helping others and learning about social justice issues.

Throughout her time in the DCS program, she has had the opportunity to volunteer with the SOKY chapter of Kentuckians For the Commonwealth. Working with this organization has helped her witness some of the ongoing issues within her community. The program has also helped her build relationships with many likeminded peers and professors. The courses provided her with valuable knowledge that she feels is applicable to every day life.

Outside of the major, Kelley worked as a features reporter for the College Heights Herald for two years.

Kelley will graduate Magna Cum Laude in May with a major in DCS as well as a double minor in journalism writing and citizenship and social justice. She hopes to pursue a career in journalism with a focus on writing about social justice issues and giving people a voice by allowing them to share their stories.
