CHHS Alumni Spotlight on Kaitlynn Craig
- Friday, November 5th, 2021
Kaitlynn Craig, recent graduate of WKU, remembers being the little girl at WKU games wearing her cheerleader uniform and dreaming of being a Hilltopper. Daughter of alumni Brad and Jenny Craig (’92), Kaitlynn comes from a family with lots of Hilltopper Spirit. She grew up in Lexington, KY but shared fond memories of visiting Bowling Green, WKU’s campus, and her grandparents, Yvonne and Fred Turner, proud supporters of WKU.
Today you can find Kaitlynn proudly working as a nurse at Tristar Greenview Regional Hospital. When asked how she applies what she learned from her time at WKU to her new career, she said the word that sticks out the most to her is perseverance. She described nursing school as rigorous at times, but persevering through her studies in the Honors College prepared her for her job as a nurse. Covid-19 presented a lot of challenges to everyone, especially in the medical field, but Kaitlynn said her support system helps, and she credited her mom, talking with new nurses going through the same thing, and veteran nurses for sharing stories about the nursing field pre-covid.
Kaitlynn described the best part of her WKU experience as the daily interactions with the Nursing faculty. “They really wanted me to succeed and were willing to put in extra time to help me.” To name a few, “Dr. Elizabeth Groves, Dr. Miranda Peterson, and Ms. Kelly Watson went above and beyond to teach me.” Inspired by them, and many others, Kaitlynn said she may consider becoming an instructor herself one day. As for now, Kaitlynn loves her patients, and being the nurse they rely on for comfort and care.
