Broadcasting (TV Production)

Experience everything television production has to offer in the WKU Summer Broadcasting Workshop. From story generation to field videography to live studio recording, you’ll enjoy every step of the creative process as you take your project from concept to a polished final video. Whether you have previous media experience or not, the faculty will cover everything you need to know: camera fundamentals, live studio operations, advanced interviewing techniques, nonlinear editing, visual graphics and more. In addition to screening your work at the end of the week, final projects will also be streamed online. (Limit 15 students)

Broadcasting (Podcast/Audio Storytelling)

Can you tell a story using just audio? Of course, you can! The WKU Summer Broadcasting Radio Workshop will teach you the basics of radio/audio production through hands-on experience with a local radio host and reporter. You will pitch story ideas, learn how to write for the ear, conduct in-person interviews, gather natural sound using a Zoom audio recorder, and edit a final production either individually or as a group that will be shared with family and friends. There might even be time to visit a radio station by the end of the week. (Limit 15 students)

Film

Are the movies your passion? The WKU Summer Film Workshop is an intensive six-day program designed to take high school students through the entire filmmaking process, from pre-production to post. Participants will work together to produce a short film using industry-standard software and equipment, from initial idea to final cut, all in time for a friends and family screening at the end of the week. (Limit 15 students)

Photography

Our summer workshop is your opportunity to spend six days learning how to fully understand your camera and composition, enabling you to create strong photographs with your individual vision. The in-depth training you will receive is brought to you by our expert faculty from our nationally-recognized photojournalism program, which has helped our grads land jobs all over the world. This workshop is designed for both beginners and advanced students who want to take their photography skills to the next level with fun assignments to put the skills learned to practice. Learn how to make great storytelling pictures for your high school paper, yearbook or electronic publications and your audience on social media. You’ll receive daily personalized feedback from the instructor alongside new friends from around the region. Participants are encouraged to bring their own DSLR camera. (Limit 15 students)
