Award & Notification
Academic Merit Awards range from $1,500 to $8,000 per academic year ($6,000-$32,000 over a four year period) as demonstrated in the chart below.
Students who qualify for an Academic Merit Award and are admitted by January 15 will be notified of their eligibility for this award shortly after being admitted.
Academic Merit Awards require full-time enrollment (12 or more credit hours).
Students who meet the minimum criteria for this award (GPA/ACT) but do not apply for admission by the January 15 deadline will still be considered, contingent upon availability of scholarship funds. Notification of eligibility for late applicants will occur mid-May and mid-July.
Scholarship awards are applied toward charges that exist on the student’s account at WKU. In the event total awards (grants, loans, scholarships) exceed total charges (tuition, fees, housing, meals, books), a refund will be issued to the student by the option chosen when selecting the refund preference at RefundSelection.com
Academic Merit Awards are automatically renewable with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (at the end of the spring semester). Students who fail to meet the renewal GPA of 3.0 can use the summer term to bring their GPA up to the required level.
Academic Merit Awards are renewable for up to 4 academic years or until graduation, whichever occurs first.
