Health Sciences

The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences is designed for students who are interested in pursuing a health and human sciences related career

The program is an interdisciplinary program with three primary purposes:

  1. Allowing students with a general interest in Health Sciences to pursue a B.S. degree while obtaining a concentration in a specific area of Health and Human Services.

  2. Permitting students to prepare for post-graduate or professional Health Sciences programs. 

  3. Providing an option for students with a health-related Associate degree who wish to continue their education field (approved by the Health Sciences Advisor).

38-41 core Health Science credit hours are required, including a required concentration ranging from 24-27 credit hours.

Students pursuing the major are required to select one of the following degree tracks:

    • Preparatory Health Sciences Concentration (not available entirely in Owensboro)

    • Health and Social Welfare Concentration (not available entirely in Owensboro)

    • Associate Degree in a health field (approved by the Health Sciences Advisor)

 

  • Physical Therapy

  • Pediatrics

  • Sports Medicine

  • Orthopedics

  • Floor Supervisor

  • Health Administration

  • Occupational Therapy

Students pursuing the major may select one of the following degree tracks: Preparatory Health Sciences, Health and Social Welfare, or use an Associate degree in a health field. Depending on the concentration, some courses may only be offered at the WKU main campus. Please meet with at WKU Owensboro advisor as soon as possible to determine the best track for you. Applied Science) from a health-related program receive a 12-hour waiver from the overall upper-level course requirement for the health science major. Students who transfer to WKU with an Associate of Science or an Applied Associate degree from a health-related program will need 23 hours in the major upper-division hour requirement.  

It is important to meet with a WKU Owensboro advisor as soon as possible to evaluate transcripts and transfer equivalencies.

120 college-level undergraduate semester hours including the following:

  • 39 semester hours of General Education, or General Education Certified/Associate of Arts/Science degree from KCTCS

  • 42 semester hours of upper-division credit (300-400 level courses)

  • 30 hours must be earned in residence (at WKU), at least 16 of which must be completed after the semester in which the student earned a cumulative total of at least 90 hours
