WKU in Elizabethtown has a new academic advisor following the retirement of long-time WKU academic advisor Gail Smallwood who held the position for 22 years.

Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Julie Hoisington moved to the region for her husband’s Army career. She is a graduate of Bowling Green State University where she earned a degree in sociology. She later earned a Master of Education in Counselor Education and was a school counselor. Julie began working at WKU-Ft. Knox as the office assistant and is pursuing a graduate certificate in academic advising from Kansas State University. 

Hoisington said that she plans to use her experience in education and counseling to advocate for her students.

“I'm so excited for my new role as an academic advisor for students at WKU in Elizabethtown, and I look forward to helping students achieve their academic and professional goals,” she said.

As an academic advisor, she will help students choose degree programs that fit their career goals and select course options that fit their busy schedules. She can also advise current E’town Community & Technical College students to help them prepare for a seamless transfer to WKU after completing their associate degree.
