WKU Recreation Administration
The WKU Recreation Administration program is celebrating their 50th anniversary! To commemorate this WKU milestone, the Recreation Administration program will facilitate interaction opportunities throughout the year for alumni, family, friends, faculty, and students. Our grand celebration will occur during homecoming weekend 2017 – we hope you will plan now to attend.
This Year's Events
There are several ways to stay informed about this year’s activities and program updates:
The major, started in 1967, is housed within the School of Kinesiology, Recreation & Sport and the College of Health and Human Services. Dr. Fred Kirchner developed and coordinated the undergraduate program as the first full-time faculty member. Several part-time teaching professionals from the field of recreation and parks supported his efforts over the years. Eventually, more full-time faculty members were added to the program and five of these individuals taught full-time at WKU for over 20 years
- Dr. Charles “Chuck” Crume (24 years)
- Joann Verner (25 years)
- Dr. William “Biff” Kummer (25 years)
- Dr. Alton Little (31 years)
- Dr. Steve Spencer (27 Years)
Accredited since 1980 by the Council on Accreditation of Parks, Recreation, Tourism and Related Professions, the Recreation Administration program has continually evolved and now offers five major concentrations, five minors, and several innovative initiatives. Major Concentrations include:
