The DPT Program at WKU is an accredited entry-level professional program designed to provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills to become competent physical therapists. The mission of the program is to serve the health care and preventative needs of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, including the rural and under-served areas, by developing culturally competent, caring, and autonomous physical therapists who will engage in critical thinking, evidence-based practice, professional behavior, life-long learning, and community/professional service.
The DPT Program is housed in the spacious Medical Center WKU Health Sciences Complex (MCHC) in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The faculty, staff, and students of the DPT Program enjoy state-of-the-art facilities, equipment, research labs, a cadaver lab, and multipurpose classrooms. The MCHC also offers DPT faculty/staff and students their own lounges, kitchens, and conference rooms. The program graduated its inaugural class and received initial accreditation in 2016.
The primary responsibility of this position is the administration of the doctoral program in physical therapy. The director is also expected to teach within one's area of expertise, continue a record of research, and develop and maintain professional and community relationships. WKU is searching for an individual who possesses exceptional vision, communication and organizational skills, and will encourage and mentor faculty members, leading to the continued success of the program. The Department Head will be responsible for ensuring all the accreditation requirements are met as set forth by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). The Department Head reports to the Dean of the College of Health and Human Services. Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience.
