Text Styles

Through the WYSIWYG editor there are several styles that can be applied to text.  Styles can be changed using the Style Dropdown in the WYSIWYG editor toolbar. Applying these can change your text size, color, and appearance to predefined WKU styles. Use the styles to give portions of text more emphasis, create secondary headers, reduce the importance of some text, and more. Using a thoughtful mix of headers and text styles can set a page apart as well as make it more user friendly and easy to read.

Font Sizes

In some cases you may need to increase a font size of some text. Use the Font H1 - Font H6 styles to apply the default heading font sizes to your text. These sizes can be applied to other Headings selected in the formatting dropdown to the left of the styles dropdown. These are not a replacement for headers, only an addition to alter a text's size.

Colors

While the WYSIWYG editor provides the ability to select any text color, we reccomend that sites stay in the WKU theme and use the provided colors for text.

  • WKU Red Text - Applies the defined WKU Red to any text.
  • Muted Text - Use for less important or secondary text.
  • Success Text - Use to convey success
  • Informational Text - Use to show neutral status
  • Warning Text - Use for text implying a warning
  • Danger Text - Use for error or danger text. Note: this is not WKU Red.

Other Styles

  • Lead Text - Use on the first paragraph on a page to make the most important content stand out.
  • Semi-Bold Text - Creates a lighter weight bold than the default.
  • Small Text - Reduces font size by 85%.

Examples

Lead Paragraphs

The lead paragraph style is best utilized by the intro (or lead/leading) paragraph of your page.  By adding the Lead style to the first paragraph it becomes more eye catching and easier to read.  This allows the reader to identify important information quicker and makes it stand out among other paragraphs.

Secondary Headings

There may be cases where a heading's text becomes very long or needs a sub-title. To display this to users combine the small, muted text, WKU Red, and italicstyles on the text in the header that you wish to present as secondary.
