Rebekah Ison, WKU 2016

"I truly believe that if it were not for WKU and the experiences that I had, I would not be who I am today. It molded me into the person I have always wanted to be, and for that I am forever grateful. "

Rebekah's Story

If I could sum up my experience at WKU into one word, it would be growth. I know that can sound so cliche- as that’s what college is for- but those 4 years helped mold me into not only the woman I am today, but also the business owner I am today. Most of my time at WKU was spent in Gilbert Hall. I was a resident for one year, and a Resident Assistant for 1.5 years. Those years were some of the best times of my life. I made forever friends and learned so much about myself, my identity in society, and gained the confidence and knowledge that has propelled me into the greatest opportunities.

Unlike other business owners who have either a degree or history in the business world, I am not of that norm. I studied Social Work at WKU, my real and true passion, but after graduation I was faced with a decision to either continue growing my business, or pursue my Masters. With much thought and prayer, I decided to dive into the complete unknown world of entrepreneurship. It’s been 2 years of full growth and expansion, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

My business, Doodles by Rebekah, focuses on creating whimsical artwork with a southern flair and featuring that artwork on apparel, home goods, etc. I currently sell my products in almost 200 retail locations nationwide, and each piece of artwork represented is created by hand and by me. I truly believe that if it were not for WKU and the experiences that I had, I would not be who I am today. It molded me into the person I have always wanted to be, and for that I am forever grateful.
