While it was over four years ago, it seems like only yesterday that I travelled to
WKU for my official college visit. Like most students who come for a campus visit,
I remember being anxious and curious, but also excited to explore and learn about
the school I was considering calling home. I wasn’t even in my car to return home
before I decided that WKU was where I belonged. From the aesthetic beauty of the campus,
to the faculty, staff and students who I had the opportunity to meet, I left feeling
assured that all of the goals and aspirations I had set for my time in college were
all within my reach at WKU.
When it comes to my academic career at WKU, I could not have asked for a more personalized, focused and rewarding experience. WKU has created a challenging yet encouraging learning environment. I major in Public Health with a concentration in Environmental Health Science, and as a senior, I feel more than prepared to enter the healthcare workforce. The professors in my department make their classes rigorous yet engaging. In addition to excellence within the classroom, I believe that what makes the faculty at WKU so spectacular is their willingness to be a resource for their students. My advisor within the Public Health department is a perfect example of a professor going above and beyond to assist me during my time at WKU. My advisor not only knows me by name, but also my strengths and goals post graduation. With this in mind, she has been able to steer me in the right direction with the classes I should take each semester, as well as internship and job opportunities. At WKU, I have received a one of a kind educational experience that I believe can only be found here on The Hill.
While excellence within academic programs is a top priority for both WKU and its students, so too is the student quality of life. During my years on The Hill, I have been involved with almost 20 different organizations and activities that have challenged me to think outside of the classroom and grow into a well-rounded student. I was a WKU Spirit Master, which has given me the opportunity to serve as a student ambassador for my school. I also joined a fraternity, which has allowed me to be a part of an outstanding Greek system. While participating in campus ministries, leadership and personal development opportunities, as well as pre-professional organizations, I have been able to develop skills such as organization, communication, teamwork and time management. These opportunities have provided me with a community of peers and close, lifelong friends that have helped shape WKU into my home away from home.
Between a rich, unique academic experience, blended with involvement in various activities and organizations, WKU has presented me with opportunities that I could not have imagined. Not only has WKU helped me reach the goals and aspirations I set for my college experience, but it has challenged me to push myself, branch out, and grow in ways I never expected. When I visited this campus over four years ago, I never could have imagined the opportunities I would be presented with, and that in only four short years, I would completely transform into a totally new person, ready to take on the world and begin the next chapter in my life.
