Hardin Planetarium adding presentations of eclipse show

WKU’s Hardin Planetarium is responding to the growing interest about the total solar eclipse on Aug. 21 by offering additional presentations of its free public eclipse show, Into The Shadow Of The Disappearing Sun.

“It has been fantastic to have so many people coming to ask questions and learn more about how to make the best plans to observe the total solar eclipse,” said Dr. Richard Gelderman, director of the Hardin Planetarium. “Because we have had a full house at all the recent eclipse shows, we have added additional shows for the last two weekends before eclipse day.”

  • On Sunday, Aug. 13, there will be two afternoon presentations – at 2 p.m. and 3:25 p.m. CDT.
  • On Saturday, Aug. 19, there will be two evening presentations – at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. CDT.
  • On Sunday, Aug. 20, there will be four afternoon presentations – at 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m., and 4:30 p.m. CDT.

“The staff at Hardin Planetarium created an immersive show that lasts just over 30 minutes, with a question period afterward that has been lasting another 20 minutes or more.” Dr. Gelderman continued. “Audience participation is always a focus of our shows and the desire to make the most out of this incredibly rare opportunity has led to wonderful exchanges about how to safely enjoy the eclipse.”
