WKU President Timothy C. Caboni takes oath of office

With his wife Kacy holding a Bible belonging to WKU’s first president, Dr. Henry Hardin Cherry, Timothy C. Caboni took the oath of office as WKU’s 10th president during the Board of Regents’ quarterly meeting on July 28.

“Very few occasions are this special,” President Caboni said after Chief Justice John D. Minton of the Kentucky Supreme Court administered the oath. “I look forward to continuing the remarkable trajectory WKU is on as we go forward and working with all of our stakeholders.”

President Caboni began his tenure on July 1.

Justice Minton also presided over the installation of the Board’s officers: Dr. Phillip Bale of Glasgow, chair; Gillard B. Johnson III of Nicholasville, vice chair, and Frederick A. Higdon of Lebanon, secretary.

Dr. Bale swore in WKU’s newest regent, George Nichols III of Potomac, Maryland, who was recently appointed by Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin.

In other business, the Board:

*Approved Distinguished Professor appointment for Albert Meier, a professor in the Department of Biology.

*Approved emeritus status for Jacqueline Pope-Tarrence and Richard A. Roberts, College of Education and Behavioral Sciences; Frank Kersting, College of Health and Human Services; Melvin Borland, Gordon Ford College of Business; and Richard Weigel, Potter College of Arts & Letters.

*Approved graduate certificates in Economic Data Analysis and Addiction Education.

*Approved an undergraduate minor in Computer Animation.

*Approved undergraduate certificates in Health Informatics and Public Health.

*Approved undergraduate certificates and minors in Environmental Health and Health Education and Health Promotion.

*Approved changing the name of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences to the Department of Applied Human Sciences.

7 charter members to be inducted into WKU chapter of SALUTE, national honor society for student veterans

History will be made on Nov. 29 when WKU will get its first chapter of SALUTE, a national honor society for student veterans. Seven charter members will be inducted into SALUTE at 5 p.m. in the Veterans Resource Center, 410 Tate Page Hall.

3 GIS alumni assist in post-hurricane recovery in Puerto Rico

Three alumni from WKU’s Department of Geography and Geology who work for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) have been assigned to Puerto Rico to assist in post-hurricane recovery efforts.
