School of KRS Director Named Fellow of American College of Sports Medicine

BOWLING GREEN, KY—Dr. Scott Lyons, Director of the School of Kinesiology, Recreation & Sport (KRS) at Western Kentucky University, was recently recognized by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) as a new Fellow of the College. Attaining Fellow status is considered the most prestigious distinction within ACSM.

“This is a tremendous career acievement, and I am very pleased. This is something towards which I have been working since I joined ACSM in 2004,” stated Lyons. “A few of my close colleagues around the country achieved Fellow status within the last couple of years, and I am very happy to join them. This will allow me to become more integrally involved in the College, as there are a number of leadership positions and committee appointments that are available only to Fellows.”

ACSM advances and integrates scientific research to provide educational and practical applications of exercise science and sports medicine.  It is the most prominent sports medicine and exercise science organization in the world, claiming greater than 50,000 members and certified professionals from around the globe.

I am not even halfway through my professional career, so I have a lot of time left to give ACSM…and energy to match,” said Lyons.  “I am looking forward to greater involvement on the natinal level, but also to continuing to work with our younger faculty and provide them the resources they need to be successful and to attain Fellow status themselves, should they choose.”
