The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences in the College of Health and Human Services at WKU is proud to announce that Dr. Heather Payne-Emerson, Hospitality Management and Dietetics (HMD) faculty member, was awarded the 2016 Outstanding Dietetic Educator of the Year Award by the Kentucky Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics at the 2016 Annual Nutrition Conference and Exhibits in March. This award is the highest award given to a dietetic educator in the state of Kentucky.
Dr. Payne-Emerson follows Ms. Jane Simmons, HMD faculty member, who was awarded the Outstanding Dietetic Educator of the Year award in 2015. Dr. Payne-Emerson joined WKU in 2012 and is the DPD director for the WKU Dietetics program. Travis Wilson, Family and Consumer Sciences Department Head, said of her, “Dr. Payne-Emerson is a dedicated professional that inspires students to achieve. She believes quality programs lead to quality professionals, which is evident in the graduates of our program.”
Dr. Payne-Emerson came to WKU from Murray State University, where she served as the Director of the Dietetic Internship, and she has also worked at Indiana University as a Research Dietitian. Dr. Payne-Emerson is no stranger to the WKU dietetics program, as she received her bachelor degree in 2003 from WKU before she went on to Barnes-Jewish College in St. Louis, Missouri for her Dietetic Internship and the University of Kentucky for her Ph. D.
