The Department of Public Health in the College of Health and Human Services and the WKU Chapter of the Kentucky Public Health Association are proud to announce that our student KPHA chapter was awarded the Student Chapter Award for Excellence at the 68th annual KPHA state conference on Wednesday, April 13th. The best student chapter is selected based on such criteria as the scholarly pursuits of our members, partnerships with other organizations, chapter viability, and outreach both on and off campus. This is the 8th year in a row that the KPHA chapter at WKU has received this award, and we look forward to recruiting new members from various health fields around campus to help us win it again in the future.

Additionally, WKU KPHA members presented 22 poster presentations on various health issues during the University Sponsored Breakfast at the KPHA conference.  Also, Master of Public Health student Faith Boldt presented her thesis work during a breakout session.  Her oral presentation, “The Relationship between Personal Factors, Work Factors, PTSD, and Suicide Ideation in Emergency Medical Service Providers,” was mentored by Dr. Marilyn Gardner.  We are very proud of our members who helped make this year’s conference a success. They did a wonderful job of representing the department, college, and university.
