WKU Recreation Administration Hosts 4th Annual Fly Fishing Montana Program

The WKU Recreation Administration program in the College of Health and Human Services hosted its 4th annual WKU Fly Fishing Montana program in Missoula, MT. Led by Dr. Raymond Poff, the program offers university students of all majors and community members an opportunity to develop fly fishing skills and experience fly fishing on world renowned waters containing 5 species of trout: rainbow, brown, cutthroat, hybrid cutbow, and brook.

This year’s participants included six students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Recreation Administration, as well as three community members participating in the WKU American Traveler program.  Dr. Poff works with WKU’s Study Away office, The Missoulian Angler in Missoula, MT and licensed Montana Outfitter Russell Parks to make this program possible.

“Having completed my third trip to Montana with Dr. Poff, I can say without hesitation that each trip has produced a special surprise,” said Basil Hamilton, an American Traveler participant.  “This trip the surprise was the hooking and landing of a 28-inch bull trout.”

Tyler Hanna, a Recreation Administration student found the experience to be unforgettable, “I would highly recommend signing up for this class for anyone wanting to get out and be immersed in nature. Montana is beautiful.”
