Message from Associate Provost Hale - P/D/F Grading for Spring 2020

As Provost Stevens announced on March 24th, WKU is shifting to a P/D/F grading policy for spring semester—please review that message for the rationale. On April 20th, students will receive instructions explaining how they may opt to choose which courses (if any) to have grades recorded with the P/D/F designation.
There are a few essential points for faculty to remember:
- By May 8, students (not faculty) will choose whether or not they want to shift to P/D/F grading for each course (with some exclusions for certification, licensure, etc.).
- By Thursday, May 21 at noon, faculty will enter A-F grades as they normally would; faculty will not know at the time which grading option students have chosen.
- After all grades are submitted, the registrar will begin converting A-F grades to P/D/F grades for students who selected P/D/F for individual courses.
Please help us spread the word to students about the potential impact of P/D/F grading by directing your students to the P/D/F policy web page https://www.wku.edu/academicaffairs/spring-2020-grading.php. Please encourage them to read the policy and the FAQs carefully.
Students should consult with their advisors before making the choices, but the choices will for students to make by May 8.
After you review the policy and FAQs, please feel free to contact me with questions.
