WKU marketing students Luke Gattis and Almedin Sivro finished second overall in the American Marketing Association (AMA) Marketing Strategy Competition held on October 26 at Trevecca Nazarene University.
Gattis, a senior marketing major from Elizabethtown, and Sivro, a sophomore marketing and business data analytics double major from Bowling Green, competed as a pair against approximately 80 other students from WKU, Trevecca, and Middle Tennessee State.
Teams received a one-page mini-case based on a fictional company, "Parthenon Federal Credit Union." The fictional company was struggling so the students spent their 20 minutes coming up with ways to help the credit union "successfully integrate themselves into the companies in the Metro Center area," according to Gattis. Once the team developed their strategies, they presented the solution in front of a panel of judges comprised of local business professionals. Presentations lasted seven minutes with no visual aids.
"I've never participated in a competition like this," Gattis said. "I didn't know what to expect, but it was a great opportunity to meet AMA members from other universities and network with professionals in the Nashville area."
Trevecca's AMA chapter invited the group back to participate in a competition in February, and invited more WKU students to attend.
